Workshop on C Language Review: A Hands-on Approach.

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Department of Information Science & Engineering in association with Krack and Hack (coding club – RVITM) had jointly organized a Workshop on C Language Review: A Hands-on Approach. Srinivas, student in Charge, Coding Club; compèred the whole proceeding. The workshop started with an invocation by Ms. Sarika B S  from ISE Department. A  welcome address  was given  by Dr. Sharon Christa I L, Assistant Professor, Dept. of CSE RVITM. Presidential address by Dr. Jayapal R was followed by Ria Somani’s (Student, Dept of CSE) introduction of the Chief Guest Mr. C Selvaraju. Vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Deepak DJ, Assistant Professor, Dept. of ISE, RVITM.

Mr. C Selvaraju is a corporate trainer with over 30 years of teaching and training experience. He has a solid background in system analysis and coding, with strong emphasis in developing optimized code. He is experienced in handling projects in .Net, Java, and open-source platforms. He is highly skilled in leading a team of developers for developing and implementing complex software solutions. He also has very strong teaching and training skills and is very good at mathematical and statistical modeling.

After the inaugural session, Mr. C Selvaraju started his session by introducing the participants to the books that they should refer to if they want to have a solid background in coding. Further, the speaker explained about the various editors and interfaces that can be used to practice C Programming. The basic structure of a C program was discussed initially that was followed by the basics of C programming like loops and conditional statements with examples. Day 1 session ended with a Q & A and the speaker took suggestions from students on the topics that they need to be covered in the next session. 

Day 2 of the workshop started with a demo on the tracing of the code when a function is used. The passing of pointers in function and the execution  process of the same is explained and a detailed session on functions, pointers and structure was given with a demo on the execution and tracing of the code. Every concept was explained followed by a demo and the process of tracing the code was explained further. The session was followed by a Q&A. Mr. C Selvaraju being a corporate trainer gave tips on how to prepare well for their placements. The main concepts they should concentrate on, How they can improve their skills. The speaker conveyed that being proficient in core subjects is more important and than focusing on acquiring additional skills.

The code and materials used in the workshop was shared further. Students gave very positive feedback on the sessions.
